Killing Soleimani intended to avert a war, claims US President

Washington: Iran claims that the killing of Major General Soleimani amounts to a declaration of war against Iran by the United States. Some other countries too echo the opinion. But as per US President Donald Trump, Soleimani was killed not to start, but to avert a war. President Trump justified his actions saying that Soleimani was responsible for bloodshed right from New Delhi to London. US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo also emphasised that the US decision regarding Soleimani was appropriate.

Thousands of people have swarmed the streets to protest the killing of Soleimani, shouting slogans to destroy the United States and Israel. Killing Soleimani, more significant than Laden and Baghdadi, former chief of CIA David Petraeus

Washington: “Qassem Suleimani was the architect and operational commander of the Iranian effort to solidify control on the Middle East. Therefore, the killing of Soleimani is more significant than the killing of Osama bin Laden or even the death of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr-al-Baghdadi,” said former chief of CIA David Petraeus. Petraeus had led the US military in Iraq in the last decade.

While speaking on a popular news channel, in the United States, David Petraeus congratulated President Donald Trump for the action against Soleimani. Petraeus said, “The United States has made an emphatic statement that those threatening the US interests in the Middle East will not be spared.”

US military withdrawal will spell disaster for Iraq, US President Donald Trump

Washington/Baghdad: US President Donald Trump has warned, ‘US military withdrawal from Iraq will be the worst development for Iraq in the time to come. Iran will spread its wings in Iraq following the US military withdrawal and that will not be in anybody’s interest.’ The Iraq parliament had passed a resolution to expel the US military from Iraq, following the assassination of Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al Muhandis of the Iranian armed group by the United States. US President issued a spate of warning after this and he seems to have, once again, lambasted Iraq over the subject on Tuesday.

Nearly 5,000 US soldiers were deployed in Iraq as a part of the international force to counter the terrorist organisation IS. The Iraqi parliament passed a resolution on Sunday that the military agreement in this regard should be prematurely terminated and the US soldiers should be asked to leave the country. The Kurdish and Sunni leaders staged a walkout from the parliament in support of the US military deployment in Iraq.
