Bapu is my childhood friend, my very dear mate; in fact the very first one whom I became friends with. It is more than forty years since then. Bapu and I met for the first time at the Shirodkar High School, Parel. We were not just classmates, we grew close even outside of school. I went home in Bapu’s car every day. Shri Shevale, who drove his father’s car waited for us each day at the gate. I got down at Bapu’s home and walked to mine across a by-lane as I did not live too far away.
We then began to visit each other’s homes. My regular visits made me a part of the family and I became close with Bapu’s parents, His siblings and His grandmother too. His mother and His grandmother gave me values and I can say with certainty that these have moulded me as much as those given to me by my own mother. I have always been turning to draw from them on my journey in life, I still do and will always do so – that is for sure.
