Reactions of Tribal (Adivasi) students of JNU

The student organizations from ‘JNU’ that support glorification of demon Mahishasur and their representatives claim to represent the poor and backward classes. But proofs have emerged of the baselessness in these claims. After seeing the posters of ‘Mahishasur Martyrdom Day’ Event the infuriated student of tribal classes from JNU have strongly objected to it. The pamphlet released by the these students of JNU against this event itself starts with praise of Adimata Durga. It says :-

Jayanti Mangala Kali Bhadrakali Kapalini Durga Kshama Shivadhatri Swaha Swadha Namostute’

It further says, we are devotees of Mother Durga and that itself is our religion, our culture. Condemning the efforts of glorification of demonic worship of Mahishasur in the harshest possible words, the pamphlet says that they are tribals and have been worshipping the fearless and valourous Mother Durga for generations. They also mention that the organizers of this event are in no way their representatives. They further assert that they were capable-enough to represent themselves. The pamphlet ends with the war cry – ‘Jai Maa Kali, Jai Gorkhali’. Hence this pamphlet by ‘JNU Tribal Students Forum’ published in the October of 2014 brings many things to light when some elements have been claiming of representing the entire student fraternity. A handful of professors and the administration that supports them have been advocating and trying to bring in a specific ideology. On the other hand, professors from outside this grouping and the student fraternity have allegedly blamed this particular grouping of professors and students, that have been openly supporting ‘Freedom of Thought’, ‘Freedom of Expression’, etc. for not bothering for the same values of those who disregard their opinions.
