English Translation of Durge Durghata Bhari Aarti

1. Durge Durghata Bhaari Tuzhavina Saunsaari |
Anaath-Naathey Ambe Karuna Vistaari ||

O Dear Mother Durga, without your eternal grace
This world is a very difficult place to live in
O Dear Mother Ambe, Protector of the distressed and orphaned
Please extend Your all pervading Compassion so that I receive it

2. Vaari Vaari Janma-Maranaantey Vaari |

Haari Padalo Aataa Sankata Nivaari || 1 ||
Please liberate me from this vicious cycle of life and death

Relieve me from my problems O Dear Mother, for I feel defeated


3. Jai Devi Jai Devi Mahishaasuramardini |

Suravara-Ishwara-Varadey Taaraka Sanjeevani
Jai Devi Jai Devi ||
Victory to you O Dear Mother Durga, slayer of Mahishaasura (who is evil personified)

Who grants boons to gods, celestial beings and Parmatma Himself, Who is our saviour and giver of a new life

4. Tribhuvana Bhuvani Paahata Tuja-Aisi Naahi |

Chaari Shramaley Parantu Na Bolavey Kaahi ||
There is no one like you in all the three worlds (earth, space and heaven)

All the four Vedas have laboured but are unable to describe you


5. Saahi Vivaad Karita Padiley Pravaahi |

Tey Tu Bhaktaalaagi Paavasi Lavalaahi ||
Followers of the six schools of philosophy (Veda, Vedanta, Saankhya, Yoga, Nyaaya and Mimaansa) – have debated fruitlessly and fallen by the wayside. But to your bhaktas, who pray to your Aadimaata form, You shower Your divine grace in an instant.

O Dear Mother Durga, Your face full of Bliss, You shower Your eternal happiness on those who serve Your Lotus Feet and

Relieve them from their painful tribulations & set them free from their worldly bondages


8. Ambe Tuja-vaachoona Kona Puravila Aasha |
Narahari Talleena Jhaalaa Pada-pankaja-leshaa ||
Who but You O Dear Mother Ambe can fulfil my hopes & aspirations

This Narahari (who has sung this Aarti) is fully immersed in the smallest particle of the holy dust on Your Lotus Feet
