From the Editor's Desk

Hari Om Friend,

Every year our Shraddhavan friends gear themselves up for the annual Medical and Healthcare Camp which is held at Pendhakale, Kolhapur, a brainchild of Dr. Aniruddha D. Joshi – M.D., Medicine. Normally this camp is scheduled at the end of January or the start of February. The preparations for the Camp, however, start almost 6 months in advance. Things are planned meticulously and each activity is scientifically analysed. Providing compassion and support to the needy has always been one of the guiding principles of Dr. Aniruddha (Sadguru Bapu).

Another activity in line with the principles laid-down by Sadguru Bapu and which has been started recently is providing support to the villagers at Mokhada. Malnutrition has been the agonizing fact of the villagers here. Our Organisation has taken a lead in providing food to the needy by way of its Charkha Annapoorna Yojana. This issue of Alpha to Omega Newsletter covers the noble work performed by our Shraddhavans to help the underprivileged sections of the society.

Project Mokhada:

A few years back a news had appeared in Daily ‘Punya Nagari’ dated 31st August 2015 highlighting the pathetic condition of malnutrition in Mokhada taluka of Palghar district. For last many years the district of Palghar has been plagued by the problem of malnutrition.

Dr. Aniruddha D. Joshi (Sadguru Bapu) has always been sensitive and compassionate about various difficulties of the underprivileged masses. On the directions of Aniruddha Bapu, a survey was jointly conducted by the Organization in Mokhada.

The findings of the survey were as under:

- Perennial water shortage making farming possible only during rains.

- Lack of employment opportunities locally resulting in malnutrition and poor health of the hamlet-dwellers.

The resultant poverty coupled with frequent childbirth at very young age.

To start with, the Charkha Annapoorna Yojana was implemented in a remote hamlet named Gandhipool on 2nd September 2015 to address their issue of earning of a livelihood. Under the Yojana, a hamlet-dweller would have to spin the charkha for at least 90 minutes for which he gets 200 gm rice and 50 gm dal. The project had a lot of significance for these underprivileged masses as they were to earn their livelihood with dignity.

Mokhada Project – Charkha training

With all these efforts, the administration at a local school in Gandhipool had requested the Organization to work out a solution so that all children in the hamlet get a wholesome meal. Accordingly, the mid-day meal program was also initiated at Gandhipool School from April 2016.

Mokhada Project – Charkha spinning by villagers

Currently, 229 families are getting support from the Charkha Annapoorna Yojana. Activities like Vermiculture, water retention, etc. are being planned at Gandhipool so as to make it self-sustained and a ‘model village’ of GRAM VIKAS (rural development) as envisaged by Dr. Aniruddha D. Joshi.
